All the World a Buzz

Google announced Google Buzz last week.  Like Wave, its not as intuitive as I would have expected from Google.  It want to be a stand alone social media hub rather then play nice with Facebook and Twitter.  Its interesting.  There are so many social networking options.  I liken it to Search Engines in 2003--  everyone was using everything, there were so many options that are long since a faded memory- DMoz, Alta Vista, DogPile... yes, dogpile... anyone remember those?  SEO- used to be developing Metatag search engine specific strategies.  And now its come to "Just Google It."  as if there were anyother option.
I believe how social networking will evolve, right now it is everywhere- there are so many options.  But the users will determine who lives and who dies.

For Google to make yet another option, is only a step in their attempt to rule the cloud.  They will cover all of their bases to provide a seamless intergation for productivity- on both the social and enterprise platforms.

  1. Agreed... Google is starting to overextend itself. If Buzz is any indication (and Wave, and Nexus, and...), Google is just trying too hard to have control over all the online markets at once. Buzz is not only the same social networking black-hole-of-communication as all these other, more popular services, but actually rather unpleasant to use. It's ugly, it's not very well-featured, and no one uses it simply because nearly every user that wants social networking of that type is already on Facebook and/or Twitter.

Put simply, it's exactly like Twitter, only boring. Not the best marketing strategy they've ever used.

That said, I'm still a Google fanboy at heart, and I approve of their attempts to at least be present in every style of Internet interaction, simply because it's a step towards full technological integration... a goal that I truly hope is achieved in my lifetime.
