It started with hike up to the top of the Sleeping Giant- a peak that offers 360 degrees of WOW. You can see the entire island from the top of the hike. Amazing.. You look out and can see the southshore, east side, north shore, the cloud shrouded Mt Waiale'ale. Its breath taking. Then we headed down and went surfing down in Kealia..gorgeous blue bird day, fair surf, bt the good company made up for the so-so surf. Then we went and had lunch at this werd little thai place... that the only sign was a crooked "Thai Food" painted on a piece of board. When we werent to get the gas we passed a guy rding a bke rith a rooster- a live rooster on his handlebars!! Then I was coming out of the the Convienience store and a guy was walking in, I loked up and he looked so familiar but I could not place him. Later I realized it was a lead guitarist from a band we had seen the previous week-- did I tell you the island is REALLY small?Oh that was good. Then we got some petrol and head up to the North Shore. Its about a 45 minute drive from the east side. We stopped in Wailapa at this organic farm to pic up some ginger root and tumeric "o'lena" root for my aunt. the farm was amazing acres and acres of gorgeous veggies and chickens-- the have yurts..its totally something out of a story book, or new school hippie days. After being bit up by mosquitos we headed down to Hanalei where we walked around and went to a street art fair, bumping into people we all knew- its a tiny island-- and we realized its not just a tiny island, but a tiny world. Its like a fishbowl. The connections are hilarious-- spanning from Kauai to Mainland to Brazil and then those friends know each other in completely different ways. Its amazing how connected we are. We grabbed some beers from Big Save and headed to the outdoor viewing of Endless Summer. Lazing around watching the old school surfers travel around the world with their long boards, lying on the grass under the tropical Hawaiian moon, crazy. Crazy to think I have a house in Utah. Crazy to think its snowing there. Crazy to think I am home from Utah, Gabriel is home from Bazil and Tiana is home from her travels. We watched the movie and then decided we were hungry after looking around we ended up at Hanalei Pizza. "1/4 cheese, and the rest-- just go for it." I told the pizza guy. It was the most insanely delicious incredible pizza I have ever ate in my life.. Light artichoke hearts, asparagus spears fanning out, carmalized onions, mushrooms, olives, sprinkle of feta, tomatoes... I dont eve remember what else, but it was heavenly. We laughed and joked and had such an amazing time. The pizza guys actually own 3 retail stores, and are hiring for a marketing postions. Uh HELLO. Wow. And the guy that took our order that is just visiting-- who had met Tiana the other night-- was the creative director for all of the Gumby animations...just taking a break from hollywood. We stayed out there till they were closing down...So we got a hike in, went surfing, went to an organic farm, got bit but a lovebird, found a new restaurant, went to an art fair, developed a potential strategy for a bike valet program for UC Santa Barbara event, watched Endless Summer out on the grass, met some great pizza guys, laughed and laughed and laughed.. and had a damn good time.
Thanks guys.
